Wind power is growing far below what is necessary for the EU to achieve climate neutrality.
Europe installed 14.7 GW of new wind energy in 2020 and already has 220 GW of total capacity. However, the pace at which wind turbines are being raised is not enough to achieve the “Green Deal” and climate neutrality.
The WindEurope employers’ association warns in a new report published today, in which it indicates that the EU will build 15 GW per year for the next five years, but it would take 27 GW per year to achieve a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030 .

News about Wind Energy
Spain, third country in Europe in requesting orders for wind turbines.
The United Kingdom has been the country with the highest number of orders (1.5 GW), followed by Sweden (1.1 GW) and Spain (0.5 GW).
The 36 orders, spread over 14 countries, to supply mainly onshore wind farms have been a record since the fourth quarter of 2017.
For onshore orders they were 2.9 GW, which represents a growth of 29% compared to the first quarter of 2020.
Orders for offshore were 1.8 GW destined for two wind farms: the Sofia wind farm in the United Kingdom and Courseulles-sur-Mer in France.
