The European continent has the potential to host up to 52.5 terawatts (TW) of onshore wind energy (1 MW for every 16 citizens) and thus generate more than 100 times the amount of electricity it currently produces with the wind, according to a new scientific study led by the universities of Sussex (UK) and Aarhus (Denmark).
The authors of the study do not ask that all this potential be developed, but rather that it be taken as a guide to advance on the path of decarbonization.
